St. Paul’s Cathedral

The St. Paul’s Cathedral is a cathedral located in the centre of London city on Ludgate Hill. This Cathedral serves as the seat of Bishop of London.  It was designed by Sir Christopher Wren in 1668. The design of the Cathedral went through several stages. Sir Wren started the design of the cathedral before the great fire of London which contained a spire; however, the spire was replaced by a Dome after the fire was extinguished. The cathedral represents a Renaissance style which shows the baroque of England. The dome of the cathedral had its inspiration in St.Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The cathedral was also a target for German bombers during the Blitz, but survived several attempts to demolish it.  The cathedral also serves as Order of the British Empire Chapel as well as Treasury. It is also home of a number of tombs of famous figures of England including Lord Kitchener, General Isaac Brock, Sir Winston Churchill and Sir Alexander Fleming.
