The Hay-Bunau Varilla Treaty, between US and Panama is among the  major contributions of US president, Theodore Roosevelt that have made him popular almost in the entire world.

This treaty allowed the US government to construct a canal connecting Atlantic and Pacific oceans, which has greatly contributed to the rising of the US’ economy (ablongman.com). However, it on the other hand, affected the relationship between US and Columbia. In this regard, this paper is for expounding on the state of relations between the two countries after the signing of the above-mentioned treaty ,and concentrate on the rights that the United States gained in the new country of Panama, especially in the Canal Zone.
