Al-Qaeda has conducted almost six main terrorist attacks in which four times they target America or its people (cited in Global Security, 2009).

First terrorist attack of Al-Qaeda was on December 29, 1992, in which two bombs were exploded in Yemen but fortunately no Americans were killed. However, two locals were killed as a result of this incident. In 1993, Al-Qaeda used a truck loaded with explosive material to attack the World Trade Center in U.S. This time six people were killed and 1,042 injured. Al-Qaeda again attacked in the Yemen with its bombs and missiles which destroyed the U.S.S. Cole in October 2000. The attack was suicidal and killed 17 U.S. persons. The 9/11 attacks were the most destructive among all. This time, terrorist hijacked the two passenger aircrafts and hit the twin towers of World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. Almost 3,000 people were liked in these attacks and the two towers were completely collapsed (cited in Global Security, 2009).

America has been fighting against al-Qaeda for many years but the result is that there is more terrorism in the world and life of millions of people is at stack. So it is better for the American policy makers to revise the foreign policy and to using the back door diplomatic channel to negotiate with these groups. This will not only save the life of its people and soldiers along with the military budget, it also helps to win the hearts of many third world countries. Recently, the President Obama administration has taken some very fundamental and far-reaching steps to start the process of dialogues with these militants and tried to get confirmation from them that they will not attack the U.S. any more on the guarantee that U.S will not interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs and will start leaving the country in 2011.
