Abstract: the history of alcohol and its consumption by Egyptians and Babylonians, how it has evolved over the years and what its effects on teenagers can be.

The social life of most teenagers is full of events which include alcohol. Compared to other drugs which have not always been so popular, alcohol has always been popular amongst people from all generations. It is one substance which has not gone out of style. Alcohol has been through many circumstances; being worshipped by the Babylonians to being something which was forbidden to teenagers, this is one substance which has caused people great trouble and harm. In order to understand alcohol properly, we must know its history, what its effects on teenagers can be and what solutions can be used to stop the problem of teenage drinking.

Alcohol is a substance which is consumed by people all over the world and has been around for many centuries. People are unaware as to who discovered alcohol first however everyone knows exactly how various types of alcohol is made. In exactly the same way, no one is sure as to when alcohol was discovered either. No one ever kept a record of the people/person who discovered alcohol however historians believe that people in prehistoric times did make use of alcohol and its use was first recorded around 10,000 years ago by people of the European Civilization in the Neolithic period (Milgram). It was in 5000 B.C that the Babylonians brewed beer in their temples as they believed beer to be a gift from God. Beer is a beverage which is made using grains such as corn, rye, wheat or barley which are then fermented. Beer does not contain much alcohol in it; it only contains a maximum of 6 percent.
