Summary of the main points of the Declaration of Independence:

1-Governments should not be overthrown without reason, God has created each human equal; “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal.”

God has given each human some essential rights; the King of Britain is violating these rights therefore we are overthrowing the British colonial government.

2- It is the duty of every government to enact laws and give orders which are to the benefit of the population, the King of Britain, however has given orders and passed laws which are to the detriment of the people of the colonies.

“For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:

For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:”

3- The British government has rejected all our humble appeals. We tried to appeal to the conscience of British people to stop their politicians from trying to further their control over us but that did not work.

“We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us.”

4- We ask God to give us sincerity of intentions and declare ourselves free of British rule.

“…that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do.”
