In her research she concluded that martial arts training may help 7th and 8th grader children improve their overall behavior and lead to better school performance (Ripley, 2003). She has described the procedures through which the martial arts can help the children of 7th and 8th grade at risk. Martial arts training stress the development of mental concentration in a number of ways. For example the requirements to perform one technique or set of techniques over and over again in order to perfect it. This increased ability to concentrate is developed gradually over time and also leads to the development of a sense of observation and attentive behavior (Ripley, 2004).
