The morality of the situation is maintained even if other situations are taken into account such as rape or a debilitating genetic condition. Hippocrates the father of medicine whose words forms the basis of the oath for modern medicine sums this point up well:
“I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody who asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art.”
According to the words of Immanuel Kant if a woman who is pregnant can justify that anyone in her position would make the decision to abort the child. Then the moral prerogative becomes for her to do so. However, such a moral standpoint can never truly be reached especially for someone who releases the entire breadth and scope of the issue. Such a case of virtue ethics can never be applied to the case of abortion no matter where the child may be from or what disease he might have.
