With the chemical process of Flocculation water can be freed from dirt or particles within the premises of laboratory. Water clarification is the removal of any particles from water to make it free from dirt or colour. Water Clarification includes formation of precipitates in water by adding some particular chemicals which are generally found in the laboratory. Such chemicals include Iron (III) hydroxide, Aluminium hydroxide or PolyDADMAC.

The process of Flocculation includes addition of such chemicals/precipitate in water that result in formation of tiny particles. Finally, when water is lightly stirred, such particles attach with the particles that were already present in water and cause formation of larger particles. This procedure is known as flocculation. If water contains large number of tiny particles that were already present in untreated water, they get adsorbed into these tiny precipitate particles and finally make bigger particles as coagulation occurs. Hence, coagulated precipitate gets stuck with most of the floating matter present already in the water. Then this water is filtered through a crude sand filter or through a blend of granulated anthracite (elevated carbon and little volatiles coal) and sand.
